Laser paint removal: technology and capabilities
We continue to talk about the possibilities of using the F-Clean laser cleaning system. Previously, we wrote about cleaning molds and stainless steel. This time we will tell you how laser equipment removes paint and polymer coatings.
How the laser removes the paint
Process: During laser cleaning, the paint is removed in layers. The coating evaporates, so some smoke may appear. The treated surface remains intact. The thickness of the layer affects the speed of surface treatment: the thicker the layer, the longer the cleaning process will be. F-Clean devices can clean reliefs of any complexity: blunt angles, hard-to-reach places, the smallest parts.

For whom: tube-rolling mills, aviation industry, repair organizations, etc.
How F-Clean is useful: allows you to locally clean an area of the surface, for further work: painting, welding, cutting, threading, research.
Examples: Transneft (oil company) uses laser equipment to investigate the condition of the welded joint of an oil and gas pipe. Pokkels, together with S7 Airlines, conducted an experiment to clean the fuselage of an airplane for further painting.

Cleaning of special equipment and car parts
For whom: construction companies, machine shops, automotive industry, railway industry, shipbuilding, etc.
How F-Clean is useful: it can clean tower cranes, trucks, locomotives, ships and other types of machinery. It allows to work at height, remove paintwork, treat corrosion spots, remove traces of rust.
Examples: The PIK construction company uses laser equipment to remove the paint coating from the surface of a tower crane and remove corrosion spots. A special equipment engine repair company uses the F-Clean laser system to repair Caterpillar bulldozer engines: they clean the engine from traces of operation and from paint during overhauls.

How F-Clean is useful: Thanks to the non-contact method of surface treatment, it is successfully used for working with antique equipment and antique objects. It allows you to operate with thinned metal, to clean nonseparable and fragile objects, remove paint and traces of corrosion.
Examples: Vadim Zadorozhny Museum of Technology restored a military aircraft that had been in the swamp for 70 years. The F-Clean laser system helped clean the surface gently, removing paint and corrosion without deforming the metal. The restoration organization used laser equipment to clean an antique gilded chandelier 6 meters in diameter at the height.

Operation outdoor without waste
For whom: city utilities, organizations that maintain outdoor facilities.
Why F-Clean is useful: leaves no incidental contaminants in the form of abrasive, dirt or chemicals. Allows to clean the surface of metal structures, glass and street tiles from paint and natural dirt.
Examples: Together with the «Mosgortrans», the laser equipment was tested to clean city stops and street tiles from traces of graffiti. Laser equipment helps to remove dirt without damaging the material and cleans the surface of any shapes: blunt corners, hard-to-reach places. After surface treatment, there is no need to additionally mechanically grind or polish it.
Laser cleaning of street tiles
Pokkels develops customized automated laser systems. The robotic complex can work non-stop, remove paint and dirt at specified intervals. The system may be customized. Various form factors and equipment capacity are available.
Examples: The printing house has ordered an automatic laser cleaning system for anilox rolls. The roll has small cells that collect paint. Over time, more and more dried paint remains in the cells, which increases the number of defects. The customized robotic system cleans cells of contaminants at specified intervals without stopping the printing press.
